CNG vs LNG vs PNG: Differences & Pipeline Actuator Solutions

CNG, LNG and PNG are common abbreviations related to natural gas, yet they stand for different energy forms and application scenarios.

CNG stands for Compressed Natural Gas. Generally, it refers to natural gas pressurized and stored in high-pressure vessels in gaseous form. It features relatively high storage density and is suitable for vehicle-mounted use, transportation & storage, gas filling stations and other scenarios. However, it imposes high requirements on vessel pressure resistance and safety management.

LNG stands for Liquefied Natural Gas, the liquid form of natural gas after low-temperature processing. As its liquid volume is far smaller than its gaseous volume, LNG is better suited for long-distance transportation, large-scale storage and energy peak shaving. Its core technical challenges lie in cryogenic insulation, tank safety, regasification control and supporting equipment design.

PNG stands for Pipeline Natural Gas, referring mainly to natural gas delivered directly via pipeline networks. It features continuous and stable supply with convenient access, commonly adopted for city gas, industrial and residential gas applications. PNG places greater emphasis on the stability of transmission and distribution systems, accurate metering, and gas utilization safety.

For enterprise users, the three forms are more than mere nomenclature differences. They involve a full chain covering gas source, storage, transportation, pressure regulation, metering, safety control and system integration. These three forms of natural gas serve distinct scenarios and operating conditions, resulting in vastly different requirements for valve control and safety shutdown equipment.

For full applications including PNG long-distance pipeline networks, CNG high-pressure stations and LNG cryogenic regasification stations, Jiangsu Langete supplies balanced vane gas-hydraulic actuators, alongside one-stop supporting services and safety solutions for actuators. Requiring no external power supply, this equipment comes with built-in pipe rupture protection and ESD emergency shutdown functions. It ensures safe and stable transmission & distribution for PNG long-distance pipelines, while adapting to high-pressure conditions of CNG and complex cryogenic processes of LNG, fully safeguarding the safe, stable and efficient operation of gas systems.
